I really would like to see some of his good performances so I can see what his material looks like when it goes well. I have only seen a couple of Knepper’s performance clips. I don't know.Īnd there is the 'do it for real' approach too.Ī cross-citation study might yield some answers: do some people cite eachother often but seldom cite those from the other school? Is there a growth in cross-citations or are they two continents where mostly only tourists will visit both? However, the high prices and low print runs for key works is likely to continue to slow the rate of cross-fertilization.Īnd I suspect that there are important categories within new and old. Different styles attract different audiences, but competition and creative artistry likewise result in exploring more widely for new ideas. Peaceful coexistence and a greater willingness to cross between the two is my sense of what lies in the future. The 'New School' has been around for decades though hasn't it? Ok, I'll end this post here, because it's late where I am, so in closing, I'll ask What is the future of mentalism? Is this only going to be a TV art form? Then you have Osterlind who I would consider " old school and a master of the classics ". Then we have Kenton Knepper on the other side who uses suggestions to achieve a "supernatural" experience to what otherwise would be a stale trick. So we thus have a brand new generation of DB "clones". DB will also put a new twist on the classics and claims them to be the new thing. I am a big fan of DB, and I think he is a brilliant thinker because he claims to use suggestions & NLP as methods for achieving success with his effects, and at the same time uses classical methods to achieve the same.

With NLP & body language used by many of the new school mentalists, and claiming significant success rates, where do you stand?ĭo you think this style of paperless mentalism or hypnotic inductions is just a fad, or do you think people will go back to the classics? Do you feel this is beneficial? Or one can say, " Old School vs New School ".
